Bluffton ends losing streak to city rival. Beaufort stays in tight Region 8-3A race

A roundup of Friday’s high school football action in the Lowcountry and statewide scores:

Bluffton 21, May River 6: Owen Bayes had two TD passes to Brandon Bryant as Bluffton snapped its five-game losing streak to its city rival. It was Bluffton’s first win over the Sharks since a 24-14 win in 2017.

With the win, Bluffton moves into third place in Region 7-4A and can earn a home playoff game with a win at Colleton County nect week.

Jack Ridgeway also had a TD run for Bluffton.

Hudson Tanner hit a pair of field goals for May River, the second one got the Sharks within 14-6 with four minutes left in the third quarter. But the Bobcats answered with Bayes’ 51-yard TD pass to Bryant.

Beaufort 54. North Charleston 12: Jadyn Andrews and Samari Bonds each ran for three touchdowns as the Eagles (6-3) moved into a second-place tie with Philip Simmons, which lost to Hanahan. Beaufort closes the regular season next week at Hanahan.

Bonds rushed for 110 yards and threw for 100. Andrews carried it 10 times for 79. Elias Johnson led the team with 133 yards rushing and a TD.

James Island 38, Hilton Head Island 0: Braxton Scott threw for a TD and ran for one as the Trojans moved to 9-0. The game was called in the third quarter because of lightning. HHi will close out the regular season against May River next week.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 36, Edisto 22: Maurice Brown ran for two touchdowns and threw a TD as the Jaguars clinched a playoff spot. Wenson Smith had two touchdowns for the Jags and Xavier Plowdeniz had a TD run.

Whale Branch 55, Branchville 12: The Warriors moved to 7-0 and stayed in a first-place tie with Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The two teams play for the region championship next week.

Hilton Head Christian 51, John Paul II 3: Dylan Clark threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles moved to 7-2 on the season with a win Thursday night.

Gage Zatalokin led HHCA with three catches for 112 yards and a TD. AJ Houpt had four catches for 49 yards and two TDs.

Pinewood Prep 56, Thomas Heyward 20: Will Watson threw two touchdown passes and ran for one in Pinewood’s victory. Grayson Salego also had two touchdown runs.

Colleton Prep 28, Beaufort Academy 9: Cole Davis had three fourth-quarter touchdowns in the win over Beaufort Academy.
