A bride was caught by total surprise after her dress and veil went up in flames on her big day.

In a viral video, bride Lupe Jacquez's wedding dress and veil can be seen catching on fire during her nuptials to Luis Quijano. Floating candles that lined the aisle, along with paper streamers that were tossed in the air once the newlyweds were married, are thought to be the cause of the flames.

On July 11, Jacquez told Good Morning Americaabout the incident, and explained that she wasn't aware of any danger until she stopped kissing her husband.

"I looked up and I saw two of my friends running towards me and I turned back to see what was going on. That's when I noticed that my veil and my dress had caught fire," she said.

Jacquez's brother-in-law Albert Rodriguez, who officiated the wedding, also told GMA about the scary ordeal. "It was a beautiful moment but I started to notice there was a little too much chaos going on," Rodriguez recalled.

"I heard a scream. It didn't sound like a cheer. It sounded more like a panic."

In viral videos, the dress can be seen trailing the newlyweds as it makes contact with the candles on the floor and streamers are flying through the air. Within seconds, the dress lights on fire.

Artist Shauna Bailey, who was live-painting the wedding and capturing the celebration, also posted about the experience on TikTok. "I am SO relieved that no one was hurt. It’s entertaining now, but at the time it was TERRIFYING," she reflected.

Her point of view was from behind the ceremony space, where guests threw streamers while the flames began to grow.

"I was recording for content to go with the painting timelapse when this happened. I actually dropped my phone and ran to get a bucket of water." Bailey also said that the bride "kept smiling through it all" despite her dress getting damaged and called the moment "WILD."

Luckily, the wedding guests (which included firefighters) acted quickly when they saw the dress ignite and jumped into action to put out the fire and make sure everyone was safe. Jacquez said that it made her feel "really loved" to have her family and friends look out for her. No one was harmed during the incident.
