Bridgerton has cast Halo star Yerin Ha in a major role for season four.

The upcoming season of the hit Netflix show will be based on the events of Julia Quinn's third Bridgerton novel, An Offer From a Gentleman – which tells Benedict Bridgerton's story.

According to Variety, Ha is set to play Benedict's love interest Sophie Beckett.

"The fourth season of Bridgerton turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict," reads the official logline for the season.

"Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down – until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother's masquerade ball."

In the novel, Sophie, aka the Lady in Silver, is the illegitimate daughter of an earl and one of his maids.

The Cinderella retelling follows Sophie as she works for her intolerable stepmother, before falling head-over-heels for Benedict at the masquerade ball.

The show hinted at Sophie's arrival at the end of season three, when Eloise revealed that she'd return to London for her mother's famous ball.

On whether he'd also be attending, Benedict said: "I will be there, hiding out behind a mask, avoiding eligible ladies like the plague."

The third season concluded in June, though it looks like fans will be in for a long wait for season 4, with showrunner Jess Brownell previously saying that it may be two years before we return to Regency London.

"We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film, then they have to be edited, then they have to be dubbed into every language," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

"And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we're kind of on a two-year pace. We're trying to speed up but somewhere in that range."

Brownell went on to tease they she was "really excited about what we're writing", and explained that they were nearing the end of the writers' room stage.

"I feel like it's some of my best work and my writers' room's best work," she added. "We've just really gelled our collaboration, and we're firing on all cylinders, so I can't wait for fans to see what we have."

Bridgerton seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
