Brightline station: Terms of two proposals submitted by Fort Pierce, private developer

Now that Stuart has rejected a Brightline station, will the high-speed rail company have a station in Fort Pierce?

The Sunrise City and Audubon Development Inc. have submitted proposals to build a Brightline station in downtown Fort Pierce and lease it to Brightline for $1 per year. Here are the highlights of each proposal:

Audubon Development Inc. proposal

  • Location: 300 block of North Second Street, owned by Palm Beach-based Audubon Development Inc. and adjacent to the private developer's delayed King's Landing project

  • Cost: $17 million, funded by co-partners CGHP Developments and Premier Community Investment Group

  • Contractor: Hensel-Phelps

  • Size: 2.23 acres

  • Proposal: Mixed-use development with a $30 million Indian River State College Culinary Arts Cafe and Treasure Coast History Museum; $36 million in residences; and a $21 million parking garage with 465 spaces.

Fort Pierce city proposal

  • Location: South Depot Drive between Orange Avenue and Citrus Avenue, running behind the Sunrise Theatre. Of the four parcels, the city owns two, the county owns one and a private landowner owns one

  • Cost: Fort Pierce would borrow $20 million to build the station

  • Contractor: Unknown

  • Size: 2.37 acres

  • Proposal: 6,400-square-foot station with 568-foot-long train platform. $4.5 million for furniture, fixtures and equipment for the station and platform. 210 parking spaces in the City Hall parking garage on Orange Avenue and in a vertical expansion of the St. Lucie County parking garage on South Second Street.

  • The St. Lucie Tourist Development Council will contribute $250,000 in rider vouchers for the first three years and Indian River State College said it will ask its foundation to buy 5,000 passes for full-time students
