It's back-to-school season, and that means parents everywhere are struggling to say good-bye to their college-bound kids—including Brooke Shields.

On August 26, the 59-year-old mother-of-two shared an emotional video to Instagram where she opened up about how she was coping with both of her daughters—Rowan, 21, and Grier, 18—being away at college. Rowan is a senior at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, while Grier is starting her freshman year at the same school.

“They’re together at least,” Shields said in the clip. “It’s not easy. It’s not easy for the moms. I mean it’s just so weird. It’s so weird that (Grier’s) not here.”

The former model called the drop-off process “really hard," admitting that she broke down as soon as Grier started crying.

“And then I cried a good portion of the ride home,” Shields said. “So anyway I’m an empty nester. Wow.”

"Both of my baby birds have left the nest," she captioned her post.

Commenters, including Al Roker's wife—fellow empty nester Deborah Roberts—showed their support.

"I know Brooke. But it gets a bit easier and always remember that we raised them to fly away! 🐦" Roberts wrote.

"It's definitely not easy for the moms," agreed a fan. "I call it proudache -- it's where you're proud and have heartache all at the same time. You've got this and so do they. 🙏"

During a May appearance on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, Shields talked about how close she is with their daughters, revealing that they still sleep in her bed when their father, Chris Henchy, is out of town.

"You know, the minute my husband is on any type of work trip or gone or something, you know, they still sleep in the bed with me," Shields said, who also shared that the trio loves watching rom-coms together.
