Candace Cameron Bure's older brother, Kirk Cameron, is getting new backlash for his recent comments about people who send their kids to public school and "outsource our parenting."

The father of six appeared on The Elizabeth Johnston Podcast to talk about family, religion and more, and soon after the episode was released, Hemant Mehta of Friendly Atheist shared a clip from the conversation that started gaining attention.

In the video, Cameron said, "If we outsource our parenting because it’s easier or we believe the lie that we’re not qualified experts to educate our kids so we have to subcontract our parenting and discipleship out to the government, we’re gonna have little kids that come back as little Marxists, little statists, little atheists, drag queens, strippers, drug dealers, and you name it."

The comment quickly got backlash as people criticized Cameron's intense opinion, with one person arguing that he should only be concerned about his own parenting, saying, "Former actor Kirk Cameron gets to make decisions for his children, no one else’s."

Other people spoke up to defend public education, such as someone who replied, "It’s truly sad to see people undermine the public education system. Teachers are everything. They’re woefully underpaid to try and open kid’s minds, find their passions and prepare them for the real world. One thing I know is that I wouldn’t want Kirk Cameron teaching children."

"That’s a terrible take for all those teachers doing the best they can with little funds," read a similar comment.

As expected, there were a few supporters scattered in the mix, like a person who said, "What he says is extreme but public school is a risk. For some it may be the best option but shouldn't be taken lightly IMO."

Of course, there were also jokes in the comments, and one teacher wrote, "As a public school teacher in Los Angeles, I can say with 100% confidence I have never taught any of those subjects…."

Back in 2022, the Growing Pains actor made similar comments criticizing the public school system and received backlash then, while he has a history of other past controversial comments as well.

As of writing, neither Cameron nor Cameron Bure have reacted to the ongoing backlash.
