Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Hyannis Harbor Hawks mercy rule Cotuit Kettleers in win

Texas Christian’s Anthony Silva (two hits, one triple, two runs, four RBIs) hit a grand slam and the Hyannis Harbor Hawks mercy-ruled the Cotuit Kettleers 14-4 after seven innings at McKeon Park on Thursday. The Kettleers (13-9) got within 8-4 before the Harbor Hawks (13-8-1), who won their third-straight, put the game away with a six-run seventh inning.

Nick Groves (Niagara) had three hits, three RBIs, stole three bases and scored a run, while Kane Kepley (Liberty) had one hit, drew three walks and scored twice. Dallas Baptist’s Michael Dattalo (one hit, two RBIs, two walks, one run) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. Aaron Savary (Iowa) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless and two-hit innings, walked five and struck out four. Casey Hintz (Arizona) picked up the win, pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed three hits, two earned runs, a walk and struck out two.

Nolan Nawrocki (Clemson) hit a two-run home run, while Indiana’s Devin Taylor (two walks) hit a solo homer. Brandon Compton (Arizona State) had two hits, drew two walks and scored a run. The Kettleers were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. Colton Hartman (Louisville) pitched one inning, gave up three hits, including the grand slam, five earned runs, three walks and struck out one.

In other Cape League action:

Falmouth Commodores 5, Wareham Gatemen 3

The Commodores (8-14) beat the West Division leading Wareham Gatemen (14-7-1) behind Luke Gaffney’s (Purdue) two-run home run. Gaffney finished with three hits (one triple), two RBIs, a walk and one run scored. Dylan Carey (Nebraska) had two hits (double) and scored two runs, while Gavin Turley (Oregon State) had two hits and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Gage Wood (Arkansas) picked up the win, pitched six innings, gave up three hits, one run, two walks and struck out six.

Yohann Dessureault (Stetson) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to get within two runs, but the tying run was a ground out to end the game. Wareham went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base. Yoel Tejeda Jr. (Florida State) allowed six hits, four earned runs and struck out five in the loss.

Y-D Red Sox 2, Brewster Whitecaps 2

The East Division leading Red Sox (15-6-1) overturned a two-run deficit on the back of solo home runs by Anthony Martinez (UC Irvine) and Easton Carmichael (Oklahoma) in the sixth and ninth innings respectively that tied the Whitecaps (9-12-1). Yarmouth-Dennis went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded the winning run at second base. Louisiana State’s Micah Bucknam pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up four hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out four, while Gavin Jones (Kent State) and Bryan Peck (Westmont) combined to pitch 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

Dallas Macias (Oregon State) and Cooper Vest (Brigham Young) both had two hits and scored a run. Nick Dumesnil (Dallas Baptist) and Daniel Cuvet (Miami) recorded one hit and one RBI each. Jake Clemente (Florida) pitched four innings of one-hit baseball, walked three and struck out six. Isaac Morton (Abilene Christian) and Will Ray (Wake Forest) both gave up a home run in relief. The pair allowed three hits and struck out five.

Chatham Anglers 7, Harwich Mariners 6

Ole Miss’ Campbell Smithwick (two hits, one run) had a trio of RBIs, and the Anglers (11-11) defeated the Mariners (9-13). Chatham led 7-1 before Harwich staged a late comeback and scored three and two runs in the seventh and eighth innings respectively. Jayden Davis (Vanderbilt) recorded three hits and scored two runs and Luke Cantwell (Pittsburgh) added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Tyler Kozera (Central Florida) pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up five hits, including three home runs, four earned runs and struck out three for the win. Hayden Murphy (Auburn) earned the save after he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out two.

Florida’s Luke Heyman and Princeton’s Matt Scannell hit two-run home runs, while Duke’s Macon Winslow (two runs) and UNC Greensboro’s Jake Ogden both hit solo homers for their only hits of the game. Chance Mako (North Carolina State) gave up one hit, four runs (all earned) and six walks, and was chased after 1 1/3 inning.

Bourne Braves 12, Orleans Firebirds 2

A six-run fifth inning propelled the Braves (9-11-2) to a mercy-rule win over the Firebirds (6-16) after eight innings. Arizona State’s Isaiah Jackson (one hit, two runs, two walks), and Coastal Carolina’s Blake Barthol (two hits, one run) both recorded a pair of RBIs. Ethan Conrad (Marist) scored three runs and had two hits and an RBI. Braden Holcomb (Vanderbilt) and Chris Stanfield (Auburn) both recorded two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Zane Adams (Alabama) pitched four scoreless innings, gave up two hits and struck out four, and moved to a 2-0 record.

Hudson Shupe (Gonzaga) had three hits, an RBI and scored a run for the Firebirds, who only had three players record a hit. Western Kentucky’s Lucas Litteral pitched four innings, gave up three hits, four runs (two earned), two walks and struck out four in the loss.
