Carissa Moore made history at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when she became the first-ever winner of the Olympic gold medal in women's surfing. Now, at the Paris Olympics, which for surfers, will take place in Tahiti, Moore will compete again, looking to defend her position on the podium.

It's one final hurrah for Moore, who announced earlier this year that she's retiring from surfing to start a family with her husband, Luke Untermann. "I feel like I’m a multidimensional human being like we all are, and I would love to be a mom and start a family," she said. "My husband would have loved to have had kids like years ago. That’s definitely something on the horizon."

Here, get to know Carissa Moore's husband Luke Untermann:

They both graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2010.

Moore and Untermann tied the knot in 2017.

They wed in the backyard of a friend's Oahu home. In Untermann's vows, he said, "I promise to hug and kiss you every time you walk through the door even if it's only been five minutes."

He attended University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Shidler College of Business.

“My education propelled our business success in that UH programs really give you the opportunity and experience to work in team settings in a way that mimics the real business world,” he said earlier this year.

Untermann is the co-founder of a banana ice cream company.

Untermann and three childhood friends, Matt Hong, Zak Barry, and Galen McCleary, launched Banán—a banana-based, non-dairy ice cream. It started as a food truck, and now they have multiple locations.

Per the University of Hawai'i, "The team always had a big picture goal of reviving the banana industry. At that time, it was dwindling from disease, which was forcing many local farms to shut down. Banán has partnered with Hawaii Banana Source over the years to supplement their supply with organic, Hawaiʻi grown bananas. Barry says the partners hope that through Banán’s growth and its customers’ enjoyment of its tropical flavors, they can continue to be a part of supporting local agriculture while helping Hawaiʻi sustain itself."

He's not on social media.

Untermann has no social media presence (he has a Facebook page he hasn't updated since 2018), but he occasionally pops up on Moore's feed, like in this sweet snap:

In a birthday post last year, Moore wrote, "Grateful to have found someone that makes having fun a priority everyday." She added, "What I appreciate most is his 'Lil Kid Luke' approach to life. Untainted by the world we live in, he chooses to see the best in people, believes in it always working out, diving head first into any adventure, unafraid, with an open heart. He has always had a gentle confidence in who he is, what he wants and has never faltered. You never have to worry about him playing games or leaving you hanging, you know what you’re gonna get and he will ALWAYS show up. I strive to be a better version of myself everyday because of you."
