The ballpark scents of brats and beer will fill the parking lots during tailgate parties this week prior to the Milwaukee Brewers games this week at American Family Field.
But the champagne is likely already on ice for a bigger celebration in the home clubhouse (and possibly the visitors clubhouse, too).
With a magic number of 3, the Brewers will almost certainly clinch the NL Central Division and a playoff spot this week at home.
It can happen as early as Tuesday, although the Philadelphia Phillies might make it a bit difficult for the festivities to take place that quickly as they are the only team in baseball with 90 wins. The Phillies also swept the Brewers at Citizens Bank Park earlier in June. Milwaukee scored only two runs in the three-game series.
However, the Brewers have won seven of their last eight games against teams currently ticketed for postseason play (Los Angeles Dodgers 2, Cleveland 3, Arizona 2). They host seven games this week with the Phillies and the Diamondbacks.
And adding even more October feel the next few days, the Phillies could clinch the division in Milwaukee with another sweep of the home team and two losses by the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.
