Chicago Fire’s Jesse Spencer Navigates Last Days of the Space Age in Trailer for Hulu Limited Series

Hulu on Tuesday released a trailer for the Australian drama Last Days of the Space Age, led by Chicago Fire vet Jesse Spencer.

The limited series, which hails from writer David Chidlow (Moving On), is set in 1979 Western Australia, “when Perth was at the center of the world’s headlines,” according to the official synopsis. “A power strike threatens to plunge the region into darkness, while the city hosts the iconic Miss Universe pageant and the U.S. space station, Skylab, crashes just beyond the city’s suburbs. Against this backdrop of international cultural and political shifts, three families in a tight-knit coastal community find their marriages, friendships and futures put to the test.”

Spencer and Radha Mitchell (Troppo, Red Widow) star as husband and wife Tony and Judy Bissett. Deborah Mailman (Boy Swallows Universe) and Linh-Dan Pham (Mythomaniac) play the Bissetts’ neighbors, Eileen Wilberforce and Sandy Bui.

Rounding out the ensemble are Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), George Mason (The Power of the Dog), Vico Thai (Total Control), Ines English (Dead Lucky) and Jacek Koman (Jack Irish), and relative newcomers Mackenzie Mazur, Emily Grant, Thomas Weatherall and Aidan Chiem.

All eight episodes drop Wednesday, Oct. 2 on Hulu in the United States (and on Disney+ internationally).

Spencer is best known to U.S. audiences for his starring roles on NBC’s Chicago Fire (as Lieutenant Matthew Casey) and Fox’s House (as Dr. Robert Chase). Last Days of the Space Age marks his first major TV gig since departing Fire as a series regular at the end of Season 10; he has since returned for three episodes, most recently for Casey and Brett’s wedding midway through Season 12 (which doubled as Kara Killmer’s farewell).
