Plus a beloved sandwich—and I tried them first.

This summer, fast food restaurants have given us an overwhelming array of light and refreshing menu options, and Chick-fil-A is no exception. Whether you're sipping on the chain's summer classic peach milkshake, pining for those hard-to-find frosted sodas, or grabbing its most underrated menu item for lunch, the legendary chicken chain has plenty of ways to quell that brutal summer heat (unless, of course, you're working behind the scenes).

As summer's longer days and higher temps start to wane, a change in the foods we crave is inevitable. We look forward to foods that fill and flavors that comfort—and that doesn't always have to mean pumpkin spice (oh, the horror!).

Chick-fil-A understands the assignment and is shaking up its menu for late summer/early fall with two menu items, one of which we haven't seen in 13 years.

Chick-fil-A Brings Back Its Banana Pudding Milkshake After 13 Years

Earlier this year, rumors circulated on social media about Chick-fil-A offering a banana pudding dish. While those rumors turned out to be true, the catch was that the treat was only served at some of the chain's specialty locations, like the diner-style Dwarf House, Truett's Grill, and Truett's Chick-fil-A, all located in Georgia.

Chick-fil-A must have been paying attention to the fan frenzy because that highly sought-after banana pudding is coming to menus nationwide on Aug. 26 in the form of a milkshake. The returning Banana Pudding Milkshake is a sweet and creamy treat made with the chain's signature Icedream dessert mixed with real bananas, vanilla wafer cookie crumbles, and topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

Chick-fil-A

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to try the Banana Pudding Milkshake at Chick-fil-A's headquarters in Atlanta, and I've been dreaming about it ever since. Chick-fil-A describes the treat as having "cooling and comforting flavors," which I can wholeheartedly confirm. It tasted like it was made by grandma and had me feeling nostalgic for family reunion potlucks. The most striking thing about the milkshake is how it tastes completely homemade with nothing artificial about it. It makes sense that Chick-fil-A's fans have been requesting the return of this shake since it first hit menus back in 2011.

The new Banana Frosted Coffee is also hitting menus nationwide. This treat was not yet available to try at the spring tasting I attended, but it seems to have passed Chick-fil-A's test market run earlier this year, along with the milkshake. The Banana Frosted Coffee is a blended frozen drink combining cold-brewed coffee, Icedream dessert, and vanilla wafer cookie crumbles, and I can't wait to try this as a refreshing mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

The Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich Is Back with a Spicy Twist

The super popular Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich will also return to the menu on Aug. 26. This time, however, it features a spicy fillet. With savory pimento cheese and mild pickled jalapeños, this chicken sandwich iteration speaks to fans who want bold flavors with some heat.

I tried this new sandwich too, and it was hands-down one of my favorite things I tasted that day. The cool thing about this sandwich is that it was inspired by fans getting creative at the register:

“When we released the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich last fall, not only did we receive overwhelmingly positive feedback, but we also saw our guests making their own unique twists by swapping the Original filet for the Spicy filet. They inspired us to officially offer a Spicy version as its own menu item, and we are thrilled to deliver what we know our Guests want more of!” said Chick-fil-A chef, Stuart Tracy.

The Banana Pudding Milkshake, Banana Frosted Coffee, and Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich will hit Chick-fil-A menus nationwide on Aug. 26. There's no word on how long these limited-time offerings will last, but the chain usually runs them for about 10 weeks or while supplies last.
