Extraction 2's Chris Hemsworth has revealed that the flaming arm sequence he filmed for the movie was done for real, rather than special effects.

Starring in one of Netflix's top ten biggest movies of all time, Hemsworth is reprising his role from 2020's Extraction as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake for the action sequel.

Fans of the first film will remember it ending with Hemsworth's character's apparent death after he was left for dead in a river when he was shot by one of drug lord Asif's men. A teaser trailer later revealed that Tyler Rake was still alive.

In the sequel, Tyler is assigned a new mission where he must break out the family of a Georgian gangster from a prison where they are being held captive.

Talking to Netflix about the upcoming movie, in a post shared on Instagram Hemsworth opened up about filming a scene from the trailer, in which his arm was set on fire in real life.

In the scene, which appears to be set in a prison yard, Hemsworth is fighting off multiple guards and prisoners as he attempts to rescue a young woman – presumably a member of the Georgian gangster's family. When his character is accidentally set on fire, he continues to fight with flames engulfing the entirety of his right arm.

Speaking of the scene in question, Hemsworth said that his arm was covered in "flammable liquid" which provided him with some warmth on a cold evening shoot.

"They had to cover my arm in flammable liquid, set it on fire, and then I had to go through the sequence," Hemsworth said.

"It was a cold night so I appreciated the warmth," he quipped, before chuckling and adding: "Very hot."

Extraction 2 is released on Netflix on June 16. The first movie is streaming now on Netflix.
