Christian McCaffrey slams criticism of wife Olivia Culpo's wedding dress: 'What an evil thing to post'

Christian McCaffrey is firing back at an online fashion influencer who criticized his new bride, Olivia Culpo, for her wedding gown choice.

“What an evil thing to post online. I hope you can find joy and peace in the world, the way my beautiful wife does,” the NFL star said in the comments of an Instagram video posted July 2 by Kennedy Bingham, who discusses fashion on social media using the moniker Gown Eyed Girl.

In her video, which she also posted on TikTok, Bingham said her issue wasn't with the "simple, elegant" design of Culpo's long-sleeved Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown, though she noted it had "no personality.”

What left the "bitter aftertaste" in her mouth, said Bingham, were remarks Culpo made recently to Vogue about how she "didn’t want (the dress) to exude sex in any way, shape or form."

The former Miss Universe also told Vogue that she wanted to be married in a gown that was "as serious" as the commitment of marriage.

While there is nothing wrong with someone "wanting a modest wedding dress," said Bingham, Culpo's remarks about her gown "went beyond just wanting something modest for herself and pushing this idea of what she thinks all brides should look like."

"You can be married in your underwear and be taking your marriage vows very seriously," said Bingham. "What you wear on your wedding day has almost nothing to do with whether or not you’re going to have a long and happy marriage."

Bingham also noted that Culpo told Vogue that her new groom believes she's at her "most beautiful" when she dresses in clothing that's “timeless, covered and elegant."

Bingham said, "I also think it’s weird how much she’s talking about coverage, especially as someone who in her day-to-day life is not a modest dresser."

Bingham went on to say Culpo was pushing a "conservative agenda" with her wedding gown and that her wedding came across like a "conservative campaign."

"You took this disingenuous pick-me route that honestly felt more like you were thinking about your narrative than you were about your actual marriage,” said the influencer.

Bingham captioned her video, "From Miss Universe to Miss Pick Me, Olivia Culpo is earning her crown."

While some commenters thanked Bingham for her insights, others slammed the influencer for posting an "unnecessary and rude" critique.

"Why is it okay to pick apart her words, take them personally and call her a pick me? If she’s a model, and Miss Universe maybe she wants to feel serious about herself, didn’t sound like she was judging other women at all," one Instagram user wrote.

"I personally think this dress, the way it was styled, and everything about her look was STUNNING! No need to overanalyze or tear someone else down just because you don’t agree," added another.
