City firefighters respond to Monday night fire at Cirba Solutions

LANCASTER − City firefighters on Monday responded at a fire at Cirba Solutions.

They found moderate smoke inside the battery recycling plant at 295 Quarry Road when they arrived around 9:45 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Assistant fire chief Slade Schultz said the fire was contained to a shredder machine.

The fire department called the Fairfield County Special Operations Team to assist with decontamination. Fire departments from Berne, Pleasant, Greenfield, Basil and Bloom townships also assisted.

Cirba Solutions recycles a wide range of batteries and traces its roots to 1984. The company has been in Fairfield County since 1999 under the old Retriev name. The company extracts materials like lithium, nickel, cobalt from batteries and recycles the materials for new batteries.
