Clovis police seek 18-year-old suspect after teen shot, dies at hospital

CLOVIS, NM - The Clovis Police Department is seeking a suspect after a murder warrant was issued for his arrest, following the death of a teenager in a shooting Tuesday night.

According to a news release from Clovis police, officers were sent to the Clovis Apartments at 1000 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. at about 11:27 p.m. Aug. 27 for reports of a person being shot. Officers found a 16-year-old male juvenile at the scene, "suffering from several gunshot wounds."

"Officers began administering life-saving measures to the juvenile until Clovis EMS arrived. Clovis EMS transported the juvenile to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," the news release states.

Clovis police said the 9th Judicial Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was then activated to lead the investigation. After further interviews, investigators were able to identify Giovanni Brown-Johnson, 18, as the suspect in the incident. A warrant was issued for Brown-Johnson for charges of murder and tampering with evidence.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and they are seeking the public's help in locating the suspect.

Anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of Brown-Johnson is asked to contact 911 immediately. Those with any other information relating to the incident are asked to contact the non-emergency line at 575-769-1921.
