Coffee-Loving Dachshund Only Comes Out of Hiding for One Thing

That morning drive to Starbies is crucial — crucial we tell you! The day can't get started without a little coffee. Which is exactly why one Dachshund on the internet has really won our heart with his love for a quick coffee run.

Perry is a true die-hard coffee fan — or maybe he just likes the drive to the coffee shop.

The Dachshund's owner was trying to lure his dog out of his hiding spot in a basket, but he wouldn't budge. So she came up with a plan.

"Perrrry," his dad called in the clip.

"Perry!" his mama chimed in —  nothing. "...Do you want to go get coffee?" she asked. And just like that the Doxie's little head popped right up.

"The only way we can get our dog's attention," his owner joked in the text overlay.

"He loves his coffee runs. I taught him well," his mama teased.

People were cracking up at Perry's "selective hearing." "If reincarnation is real, this will be me in the next lifetime," one commenter wrote. The way I knew he would be a Dachshund. So stubborn!" someone else chimed in. "Does Perry know his name? Or does he think coffee is his name?" another person teased. "Popped out like 'DID I HEAR COFFEE?'" one person added.

Can Dogs Drink Coffee?

Sadly for Perry, we don't think he's going to enjoy a nice cappuccino anytime soon. While most of us can't function without a cold brew, dogs should never drink coffee. It's actually poisonous to them. It won't just upset their tummies, it can actually kill them. Even ingesting coffee grounds or beans can make them very, very sick.

Of course coffee has a very strong smell, so there's a good chance your curious dog might accidentally drink some. A lick of coffee might not kill your pet, but you're going to want to monitor them closely for signs of toxicity. You'll also want to call your veterinarian or the Pet Poison Hotline (855-213-6680). A smaller dog will need to be watched closer than a larger dog. Grounds can pose a particularly big risk because they have a higher concentration of caffeine.

Symptoms of coffee poisoning are agitation, restlessness, vomiting, panting, elevated heart rate, elevated blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, and hyperthermia. In some severe cases dogs might collapse or have tremors or seizures. How much coffee will impact your dog usually depends on their size.

This is all to say that coffee and dogs are not a good mix. So skip the coffee and stick with puppuccinos.
