Debby storm tracker: Storm shifts west changing rainfall predictions in MA. What to know

Tropical storm Debby is projected to create a wet weekend in Massachusetts, though less so than previously forecasted.

Tropical storm Debby is making its way over the Atlantic Wednesday, with concerns of flooding and rainfall in North and South Carolina, according to the National Weather Service's latest forecast.

After making landfall in Florida on Monday, Debby has killed at least five people so far and continues its track north.

The storm is expected to continue through the East Coast over the weekend. Massachusetts and Southern New England will feel the effects of Debby this weekend, NOAA's latest forecast projects.

Here's what to know about Debby's projected impact in Massachusetts.

What to expect from tropical storm Debby in Massachusetts this week

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to bring rainfall to Massachusetts and Southern New England later this week.

Although the NOAA had earlier projected several inches of rainfall in Massachusetts and Southern New England, the forecasted levels were slightly lower Wednesday.

As Debby moves through the Northeast, rainfall is expected in New England, but Massachusetts isn't expected to be hit hard.

While NOAA expects up to 4 inches of rain in neighboring Vermont, Massachusetts is expected to get about 1 to 2 inches of rainfall through Saturday.

The forecast over Massachusetts and Southern New England was slightly downgraded from earlier forecasts as the storm shifted westward.

"A Moderate Risk area was inherited for this period and was maintained with a small westward shift from the previous area," the NOAA said. "As such, there was a modest westward adjustment of the Slight Risk area over southern New England."

Where is Tropical Storm Debby now?

Debby is expected to cause flooding in portions of North and South Carolina Wednesday through Friday, the NOAA projects.

"Tropical Storm Debby is forecast to restrengthen a bit and re-curve toward the Southeast today before making landfall along the central South Carolina coast tonight," the NOAA said.
