Dennis Quaid Doesn't Think “Parent Trap” Sequel Is Possible Without Natasha Richardson: Her Death 'Still Breaks My Heart'

Quaid spoke about the legacy of his 1998 film 'The Parent Trap,' starring Richardson and Lindsay Lohan

Dennis Quaid would love to make a sequel to The Parent Trapbutthere's a tragic reason why he doesn't think it will ever happen.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonightat the premiere of his upcoming film Reagan in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Aug. 20, the actor, 70, was asked about a potential follow-up to the beloved comedy.

"That would be fantastic, but Natasha. How do we do it without Natasha?" he responded, referencing his Parent Trap costar Natasha Richardson, who died in 2009 at 45 from blunt-force trauma during a skiing accident.

Quaid added that her death still "still breaks my heart."

In the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, Quaid and Richardson played the parents of Lindsay Lohan's characters Hallie and Annie Parker.

On Tuesday, Quaid also spoke about watching Lohan, now 38, grow up over the years.

He called his former onscreen daughter "fantastic" and said she'd "grown into a beautiful person."

Quaid continued speculating on another film, saying "you never know" if a sequel involving his character passing on a vineyard to his daughters would actually happen in Hollywood.

But he said he believes the 1998 remake of the classic body-swap 1961 original has a strong legacy of its own.

"The Parent Trap was like, a whole new career for me. It's so in my heart. It's such a beautiful movie," he reflected. "And I think people will be watching that 100 years from now, I really do."
