Game notes: Once upon a time, Anaheim was more of a tragic kingdom for the Tigers, as they went 22-58 — a real Mickey Mouse .275 winning percentage — there from 2001-21. But since dropping their first two games there in 2022, the Tigers are riding a four-game win streak at The House That Rod Carew Built, aka, The Big A.

Not much has gone right for the Halos this season, especially on the injury front. They have more than $80 million on the injured list … in just three players: Mike Trout ($38.6 million), Anthony Rendon ($37.1 million) and Patrick Sandoval ($5 million). Trout has played in just 29 games this season, wtih10 homers and a .220 average, while Rendon has just 19 appearances — and 219 over five seasons after signing a $245 million deal with the Halos. And you thought stomaching Javy Báez’s contract was rough this season.

L.A.’s offense — such as it is, with the Angels averaging 4.10 runs a game, 0.01 runs more than the bat-challenged Tigers — is led by 2016 first-round pick (No. 26 overall) Taylor Ward, who has 14 homers in 282 at-bats. There’s a former No. 1 overall pick, Mickey Moniak, on the roster; after posting an .802 OPS last season, the 2016 pick is mired in a season-long slump, with a .567 OPS.

L.A.’s mound options aren’t much better; they’re calling up 2019 seventh-rounder Davis Daniel for his first MLB start of the season. On 14 starts for Triple-A Salt Lake, Daniel has a 5.45 ERA with 82 strikeouts and 25 walks over 76 innings.

After tonight’s game, the Tigers and Angels have three more at The Big A, with the series continuing late Friday night with Kenta Maeda and Zach Plesac taking the mound, respectively.
