Did Rich Lowry use a racial slur on Megyn Kelly Show? What they say

During the Megyn Kelly Show on Monday, Rich Lowry uttered what sounded like the N-word when describing Haitian migrants.

He and the host now say it was just a mispronunciation, but social media isn’t so sure.

So, what did he say?

Who is Rich Lowry?

Rich Lowry, 56, is a writer and the former editor and now editor-in-chief of National Review, an American conservative news and opinion magazine. He is also a political analyst that frequently guests on NBC News and other outlets.

Megyn Kelly is a political commentator and host of the Megyn Kelly Show featuring "provocative conversations" or interviews with "interesting and important political, legal and cultural figures today," according to the show’s website.

On Monday, Kelly hosted an interview with Lowry and discussed the bomb threats and other violence that Springfield, Ohio has been dealing in the wake of former President Donald Trump's presidential debate comments accusing Haitian migrants of "eating neighbors' pets.”

What did Rich Lowry say?

A clip of author Rich Lowry talking with news host Megyn Kelly on Monday appears to show him say the N-word while talking about debunked rumors of Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.

In what appears to be a stumble or self-correction in real time conversation, the word migrants came after what sounded like the N-word.

“They’ve only found two Springfield residents calling to complain about Haitian (N-word) migrants taking geese from ponds,” Lowry said.

Kelly didn't acknowledge or address it during the conversation, but has since responded to the accusations in a social media post on X.

"This is so disgusting and obviously leveled by someone that doesn’t know Rich Lowry at all. A finer, more gracious man of good character you will never meet."

National Review contributor Andy McCarthy also defended Lowry in a social media post on X, calling it "ridiculous" and said Lowry "obviously got crossed up between 'immigrants' (short i) and migrants (long i) — started mispronouncing "migrants" with short i; instantly corrected himself with no embarrassment because it was patently a mispronunciation. Geez."

Lowry, replied to McCarthy's social media via his own X account, "Yep, this is exactly what happened — I began to mispronounce the word ‘migrants’ and caught myself halfway through."
