Discover the perfect pumpkin at one of these North Jersey pumpkin patches

From pumpkin cream cold brews, pumpkin pies, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin decor or any other pumpkin-themed thing you can think of, its probably safe to say that pumpkin season is officially here.

And one of the most popular fall festivities is going to a local farm and picking out your very own pumpkin to take home, whether its for carving, eating or just decoration.

Because we're in the Garden State, its only right that North Jersey has tons of pumpkin patches open this time of year for you to get your pumpkin fix. So wrangle up the family and find the biggest pumpkin at one of these North Jersey pumpkin patches.

Alstede Farms, Chester

Family-owned Alstede Farms features 35 acres of pumpkins for visitors to pick from during the fall season. Each year, the farm grows approximately 15 different varieties of pumpkins — including Cinderella, Casper, Turban and Warty Goblin — that can be used for carving, decorating or eating.

For access to the farm's pumpkin patch, or the other pick-your-own fields, each person must purchase an entry ticket in advance. Admission prices vary and include a container to hold your picks, the cost of produce picked, a scenic hay wagon ride around the farm, farm mazes and trails, as well as access to the giant hay pyramid. You can enter the pick-your-own fields daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the fields close at 6 p.m. All guests must arrive within the 30 minute window stated on their entry tickets, but can stay for as long as they want until the fields close.

At Conklin Farm U-Pick, you can spend the day wandering the vast field full of thousands of pumpkins in all shapes, colors and sizes for you to choose from. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can even take a shot at winning a 100-pound pumpkin. Afterwards, you can take a scenic hayride or stop at the barn store to explore the farm's selection of gourds, jams, fresh apples, apple cider, pies, and more.

The farm will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. All visitors will be subject to a $10 parking fee per car, and the cost of pumpkins picked will vary.

Demarest Farms, Hillsdale

From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, or 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, you can stop by Demarest Farms in Hillsdale to pick your own brightly colored pumpkin at their patch.

Reservations must be made online and general admission is $8 per person. Admission includes entrance to the pumpkin patch, petting zoo, playground and hayrides. And for those picking pumpkins, expect to pay $13 for the largest pumpkin you pick.

Fairfield Farms & Greenhouses, Fairfield

You can pick your own pumpkin the classic way while exploring the patch at Fairfield Farms, or you can take a shot at the pumpkin slingshot, where you hit a target and win a pumpkin. After you can enjoy other fall activities like hayrides, a corn maze, a rope maze, tube ride and more.

Pumpkin picking and other fall activities are available at the farm from 1 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. General admission to the farm is $15 per person, and must be purchased online.

At Farm View Roadstand, you'll take a scenic hayride through the farm to the pumpkin patch. Here visitors will be invited to pick their own pumpkin — one per person — and will receive a fresh apple as a refreshment. And if you're looking for more pumpkins afterwards, you can stop at the farm market.

The pumpkin patch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays and at 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets to the pumpkin patch are $12 per person Monday through Friday and $14 per person on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations do not need to be made in advance.

Heaven Hill Farm, Vernon

As part of the annual Great Pumpkin Festival, you can take a hayride out to pick your own pumpkin at Heaven Hill Farm. Other fall festivities include "The Big Top" themed corn maze, farm animals, pig races, a boon barn, a giant sling shot and more.

Opening hours may vary and admission to the Great Pumpkin Festival, which includes access to their pumpkin patch, can be purchased online for a discount or on the day of the event. Tickets are $21.99 per person on weekends, $11.99 per person on Tuesday through Thursday and $14.99 per person on Fridays.

Secor Farms, Mahwah

Enjoy a scenic hayride to the pumpkin patch at Secor Farms, where you can scour the field for the best pumpkin to take home. Then you can get lost in the farm's corn maze, relax under the rustic pergola or enjoy some fall treats like apple cider donuts and candy apples.

Hayrides to the pumpkin patch run from 3 to 4:50 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $7.50 per person on weekdays and $8.50 per person on weekends, and must be purchased online.

Stony Hill Farms, Chester

Stony Hill Farms is home to a patch full of pumpkins in all different shapes and sizes for you to pick this fall. Visitors will be given hayrides to the pumpkin field on weekends and other farm activities include a corn maze, rides and gemstone mining.

U-pick pumpkins are available daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the farm is $7.99 per person when purchased online, or $10.99 per person when purchased at the gate. Pumpkins are priced by their size, ranging from $3.99 to $21.99 per pumpkin.

Sussex County Strawberry Farm, Newton

While its name may not suggest it, the Sussex County Strawberry Farm offers pick-your-own pumpkins during the fall season. The pumpkin patch offers a wide variety of pumpkin — including Sugar, White Lumina and Gourds — for carving, decorating and eating. There are also hayrides at the farm, as well as apple cider donuts, pies, fall decorations and more.

Pumpkin picking is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays starting the first week of October, and prices vary for pumpkin picking.
