Dismay as new bus station entrance hit by graffiti
The vandalism of a new part of Nottingham's Broadmarsh bus station has caused dismay among some residents.
The entrance at Sussex Street was targeted by graffiti taggers over the weekend.
A social media post highlighting the issue has attracted dozens of comments, most of which have complained about the visual impact on the city.
The city council said it was disappointed, but added the graffiti would be cleaned off.
'Selfish'
People passing the entrance felt it did not give a good impression of the area.
Jo Ward said: "I think it happens. It is not going to stop us using the bus station but it is a shame as we have all this lovely new public space and this might make people feel unsafe about being in the city."
Lauren Hurt said: "It is a bit of a shame because it is brand new and it is not very nice to look at.
"But it's in a space where not a lot of people see it and there is other, I guess, artistic, graffiti."
Peter Oolusola said: "I think it is selfish. They are destroying what is meant for everybody.
"You need to educate people as to why they should keep things and look after them because if it is left like this, it will encourage others to do the same."
A city council spokesperson said: "The introduction of the basketball and skate area at Sussex Street has been a huge success and it's great to see so many young people spending time here with their friends.
"The council teamed up with local street artists to decorate the space and feel this has worked really well, so much so that we're currently looking into the possibility of more here to be included in a street art festival in the autumn.
"This has largely prevented graffiti 'tagging' but we are aware of some which has recently gone up close to the bus station and car park entrance.
"Our cleaning crews are currently arranging for this to be removed and we'd urge people not to target this area in the future."
