Disney+ announces second season of 'Percy Jackson' starring Fairview teen Walker Scobell

Whether you're a fan of Percy Jackson or the Fairview Township teen who plays the demigod, Disney+ has good news for you.

Walker Scobell, 15, will return to the role as Disney+ announced Wednesday that "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" has been renewed for a second season. Scobell will again be joined by Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri. They will embark on a new adventure based on “The Sea of Monsters,” the second installment of Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series, according to a Disney+ news release.

About 'Percy Jackson'

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" began airing Dec. 20 on Disney+. At the time, Walker was traveling on a press tour but told the Erie Times-News, via an email from his mother, Heather Scobell, that he was "very excited" for the show to air. The eight-episode first season was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 2022 and 2023.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” was one of the top five season premieres of 2023, with the first episode garnering 26.2 million views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu, according to the Feb. 7 release from Disney+. On social, #percyjackson earned over 1 billion views on TikTok in the United States over the past 30 days, while series-owned social handles have amassed a cumulative 4.6 million followers, the release said.

In late January, Disney+ released an original documentary special, "A Hero’s Journey: The Making of Percy Jackson and the Olympians." The 50-minute special features the series’ three stars plus Riordan and provides a look at production of the show.

What else Walker has done

During the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, Walker was able to spend time at home in Erie County. He told the Erie Times-News in December that he got to go to school in-person during the fall at Fairview High School, where he is a freshman.

In "Blood Knot," an independent feature starring Michael Douglas and his son, Cameron Douglas, Walker plays the elder Douglas' grandson. The film doesn't yet have a release date.

Walker appeared in "Secret Headquarters," a film with Owen Wilson, Michael Pena and Jesse Williams that debuted on Paramount+ in August 2022.

His first major role was in "The Adam Project," a film with Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo that was released on Netflix in March 2022.

Walker appeared as Michael in a 2019 Fairview Middle School production of "Mary Poppins."

He has told the Erie Times-News that he keeps in touch with Reynolds, who stars in the "Deadpool" film franchise. Walker, a "Deadpool" fan, has said he hoped there might be a role for him in "Deadpool 3," coming out this year.

Speculation on the internet is that Walker could appear in "Deadpool 3" as "Kidpool," the child version of "Deadpool." Asked in December whether he would be in "Deadpool 3," Walker was mum on the topic.
