When does the iPhone 16 come out? Here are rumors about the upcoming Apple model

Is your smartphone overdue for a much needed upgrade? If so, get ready ― it's almost Glowtime.

During last year's Apple "Wanderlust" event, the iPhone 15 debuted in a variety of pastel colors, with girls lining up in stores for the new pink color option. The base models also included the iPhone 14's Dynamic Island ― a feature once reserved for only the Pro models.

With Apple's Sept. 9 "It's Glowtime" event almost upon us, you may be wondering if the iPhone 16 is worth the upgrade, or if you should just skip it and wait for next year's iPhone 17.

Here's what to know about the iPhone 16's rumored features and when you can get a sneak peek of the latest model.

What are the iPhone 16's rumored features and lineup?

There have been many leaks leading up to this year's Apple event. Now that the event is only a few days away, what iPhone rumors are here to stay?

According to MacRumors, there are several rumored features that may appear on the iPhone 16. One of them is a jump in size for the Pro models ― 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. Vertical camera lenses are also expected for the phone's standard models, breaking free from the square shaped design displayed on recent iPhones.

In terms of battery performance, the iPhone 16 is rumored to utilize stacked battery technology, leading to a boost in both capacity and lifespan. Photographers should also keep an eye out for an improved 48-megapixel ultra wide lens and 5x telephoto lenses in the Pro models.

Other speculated features include a new "capture" button, an action button for all iPhone 16 models, faster A-series chip, and Wi-Fi 7.

What colors will the 16 come in?

Whether you cover your iPhone with a case or not doesn't seem to matter when purchasing a new smartphone. Every year, customers treat the new colors like fashion statements, coordinating them with accessories and outfits. Dummy models of the iPhone 16 unveiled shades of blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white and purple ― a total of seven colors. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the phone to come in black, green, pink, blue, and white, kicking the purple and yellow options to the Cupertino curb.

Apple Intelligence to be included in new iOS update

Apple Intelligence is a feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. The feature will be introduced to other users with the release of iOS 18.1. In the future, AI's more "cutting edge generative" features may be limited to iPhone 16 models and onward, per MacRumors.

When will the 16 be revealed?

The iPhone 16 will debut during Apple's special event on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast from Apple Park in Cupertino, California. To tune into the event, visit apple.com or use the Apple TV app.

What other Apple products are expected to receive updates?

Apple AirPods and the Apple Watch Series 10 models are set to receive an upgrade alongside the iPhone 16. According to a USA TODAY story, the new Apple Watch will be thinner with larger screens. A low-end and mid-tier version will be added to the Apple AirPods lineup, with noise cancellation available on the mid-tier. For the first time since 2019, the entry-level model receive an update.
