Driver with history of DUIs still on the run after leaving crash scene on Hanford site

A hit-and-run driver who left a Prosser man seriously hurt is still on the run nearly two weeks later.

The Washington State Patrol is asking the public for help to find Bruce Roderick, 60, of Spokane, after he reportedly fled from a crash on the two-lane highway that crosses the Hanford nuclear site about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12.

Investigators released a photo of the man, who has a history of drunk driving and is wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Several police agencies have searched the area near the Highway 24 crash but he’s not been located. He was last seen walking on the Grant County side of the Columbia River after the collision.

Troopers say Roderick was driving a 2011 Dodge minivan toward the Tri-Cities when he made a U-turn on the Hanford site, about 13 miles south of the small farming town of Mattawa.

His van collided head-on near the Vernita Bridge with a 2013 BMW driven by Fernando Preciado, 24, of Prosser. Preciado was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

Troopers say empty alcohol containers were found inside Roderick’s van, though the involvement of alcohol or drugs in the collision is still under investigation.

Roderick has a 2023 conviction in Grant County for felony DUI, which means he’s had at least two previous convictions for DUI, and was sentenced to 13 months in prison.

He also has outstanding warrants for his arrest and a suspended driver’s license.
