E.D. White leads all Houma-, Thibodaux-area girls teams in LHSAA state swimming championships

Just like with the boys, the girls LHSAA swimming championships were held last week at the Recreation and Aquatic Center in Sulphur.

E.D. White sophomore swimmer Leea Breeding returned to action this year following a serious ATV accident in March. She recovered in time to help E.D. White win a Division III state championship on Nov. 18.

Seven Houma- and Thibodaux-area girls swim teams across three of the four divisions qualified, and their swimmers tried to score the most points across 22 different races. Of course, not every swimmer entered every race, but each one tried to maximize her points in the races she entered, because only the team that scored the most points in each division was crowned the state champion.

Here's how every local team did:

E.D. White

The Cardinals swept the team championships in Division III, clinching the girls title with 379 points, 16 points ahead of runner-up Episcopal. Seniors Leea Breeding and Elizabeth Benoit closed their careers not only with the team title, but with three individual titles each.
