Electric bike rider killed in Route 18 crash in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK - A 25-year-old man riding an electric bicycle died Thursday in a crash with a motor vehicle on Route 18.

Police identified the man as Rohit Sharma, who was not a United States resident.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, township police were notified about a crash at the intersection of northbound Route 18 and South Woodland Avenue that involved an electric bicycle.

Police said Sharma was critically injured in the crash and was pronounced dead. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene.The cause of the crash is under investigation by East Brunswick Traffic Safety Patrolman Patrick Lem and no further information is being released at this time.
