Elijah Wood addresses return for new Lord of the Rings movie
Elijah Wood has addressed the potential for his return as Frodo Baggins in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The upcoming film, which was announced in May, will follow the titular character in “storylines that are yet to be told”. Andy Serkis will return to provide his voice and motion capture for the character as well as direct the film.
With cast and specific plot details being kept under wraps, many fans have wondered if cast members from Peter Jackson’s iconic trilogy will return for the newest film, with Wood not ruling it out.

“It would be pretty incredible [to return]” he said on the red carpet at the Fantasia Film Festival for his latest film, Bookworm (via JoBlo).“I have to say, any return to New Zealand to work with those individuals within the context of that world would be… jumping back into a world that’s so beloved and means so much to me. So yeah, it would be awesome.”
Wood isn’t the only star from Jackson’s trilogy to speak about the prospect of returning to Middle-earth, with Viggo Mortensen recently teasing that he could reprise his role as Aragorn.
“Sure. I don't know exactly what the story is, I haven't heard. Maybe I'll hear about it eventually,” he began. “I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot.

“I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise.”
Though details for The Hunt for Gollum are scarce, Serkis shared his excitement for the project in a statement, saying: “Yesssss, Precious. The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle-earth Peter, Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens].”
Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to be released in 2026. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 is streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 premieres on Thursday, August 29.
