Elizabeth MacRae, 'General Hospital' and 'Gomer Pyle' Star, Dead at 88
Veteran television actress Elizabeth MacRae has died. Deadline reports that MacRae died on Monday in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she grew up. She was 88.
MacRae had a series of roles on hit TV shows throughout the '60s, '70s and '80s.
She had parts on General Hospital, Gunsmoke, I Dream of Jeannie, The Andy Griffith Show, Bonanza, Gomer Pyle: USMC, Kojak, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light and many more.
Her last known acting credit was in 1989.
Elizabeth MacRae portrays Edna in the television program Rendezvous, episode The Magic Touch.
MacRae is best known for her role as Lou-Ann Poovie, Gomer Pyle's girlfriend on Gomer Pyle: USMC. She also had a recurring role as nurse Meg Baldwin on General Hospital from 1969 until her character was killed off in 1973.
According to Deadline, MacRae moved back to North Carolina with her husband, Charles Day Halsey Jr., after she left acting. She is survived by five stepchildren, Terry Halsey, Peter Halsey, Hugh Halsey, Cate Halsey and Alex Halsey Topper.
The General Hospital family suffered another tragic loss this week as actor Johnny Wactor was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend. Wactor, who played Brando Corbin on the show, was allegedly shot by three men attempting to steal a catalytic converter. The suspects are still at large.
