Emily Atack and her partner Alistair Garner have welcomed a son.

The actor — who memorably played Charlotte Hinchcliffe in the now-streaming series The Inbetweeners — shared the first photo of her newborn son Barney James Garner on Instagram on Thursday (June 20).

Alongside the photo, she wrote: "We have a beautiful son. Barney James Garner. All my dreams have come true."

Among those to congratulate the couple was former Strictly Come Dancing star Stacey Dooley, who shared the excited reply: "Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes."

This Morning's Rylan and Sophie Ellis-Bextor also offered their congratulations to the new parents, while Strictly: It Takes Two co-host Fleur East wrote: "Awww welcome to the world Barney! Congratulations Emily."

Amy Robbins, Emily's aunt and former Casualty star, added: "My new best friend."

Emily first announced she was pregnant last December with an Instagram post debuting her blossoming baby bump.

"I've never been so happy and utterly terrified at the same time. Please go easy on me. Every day is mixed with thrill, fear, joy, hysteria, topped off with a lot of vomiting — a bit like when you've just stepped off of the Oblivion at Alton Towers on a hangover," she wrote.

"I've got to know my body on such an insane level. It's made me appreciate the one I've been given SO much, I'm doing my absolute best to make it a home for the little squid I'm growing."

The surprises kept coming in March when Emily announced that she was expecting a boy during a live TV appearance on BBC Breakfast.

"I'm six months [in], and I wasn't going to say this but I am going to say it – I'm having a boy," she revealed the shocked presenters.

The Inbetweeners can be streamed on Channel 4.
