Jorge Ramos Exiting Univision by Year’s End

Univision News anchor Jorge Ramos is saying goodbye to the Spanish-language network after nearly 40 years on the air, our sister site Variety first reported. He will remain at the network through the presidential election and depart some time in December.

“This is not a farewell. I will continue anchoring Noticiero Univision until December, and afterwards I will share my professional plan,” he said in a note to his colleagues Monday. “I am deeply grateful for these four decades at Univision and very proud to be part of a team that has established strong leadership over the years.”

According to Noticias Univision, the news division of the Spanish-language network that is part of TelevisaUnivision, both the anchor and the company “have mutually agreed not to renew their soon-to-expire contract agreement.”

“I want to express my respect and gratitude for Jorge Ramos and all he has done for Univision and the growing community we serve each and every day,” president of the network’s news division Daniel Coronell said in a statement. “As we look to 2025 and beyond, our talented team is well equipped to continue the tradition of journalistic excellence that has defined Noticiero Univision since the beginning.”

Ramos has served as co-anchor for Noticiero Univision, the network’s evening newscast, since 1987. He has also hosted a Sunday public affairs program titled Al Punto. Sometimes referred to as “The Walter Cronkite of Latin America,” Ramos has won 10 Emmy Awards in addition to being named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the world in 2015.
