SNL Video: There’s No Cold Case Sydney Sweeney and Her Socials Can’t Solve

Maybe all that screen time isn’t as bad as the parents say it is?

Sydney Sweeney is guest hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and the first post-monologue sketch of the night found her solving crimes with the help of her Insta.

Sweeney and Chloe Fineman play Olivia and Kaya, a pair of 22-year-olds “in situationships” who are glued to their phones. They’re the newest addition to the police department’s cold case division. With every file Kenan Thompson’s chief flips open, they swiftly track down the perpetrator using their expansive knowledge of social media.

The first suspect, they find by his Instagram. The second one – due to his age – they track down on Facebook. The third takes them around nearly a dozen apps before finding him giving himself away on Snapchat and the last one is found, of all places, on Netflix. Every success comes with a dual “Found him” from the girls made up of equal parts triumph, snark, and apathy.

The older cops try to keep up with the lingo. James Austin Johnson’s officer reels off a string of slang terms, but is relieved to find that nobody’s buying it. Thompson’s chief offers to replace “gorgeous” with “caked up,” which is even worse.

The sketch is hilarious, but more importantly – we have the perfect pitch for a new police procedural! A pair of Gen Z detectives track down hardened criminals with their online savvy. Part CSI, part Euphoria. It’s Law & Order: APP. Finally: procedurals aren’t just for retirees anymore!

Watch video above, then weigh in on the SNL hosted by Sydney Sweeney and featuring musical guest Kacey Musgraves.
