TVLine Items: Renée Zellweger’s Max Series, Amazon Casts Muhammad Ali and More

Renée Zellweger has 12 Months to Live in her latest TV role.

The actress will star in and executive-produce an adaptation of James Patterson and Mike Lupica’s book, which is currently in development at Max under the name Jane Smith, our sister site Variety reports.

The series “centers on a brilliant, tough, and darkly funny defense attorney in the Hamptons,” reads the official description. “Up to this point, Jane (Zellwger) has only cared about winning; however, her world is completely turned upside down when, on the eve of the biggest case of her career, she is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. While the investigation becomes more dangerous and deeply personal, Jane refuses to let her death sentence stop her from solving this case.” Miki Johnson (Presumed Innocent, Ozark) will serve as showrunner.

Zellweger’s previous TV credits include Netflix’s What/If and the NBC miniseries The Thing About Pam.
