Tyler Perry’s First Netflix Series Beauty in Black Gets Release Date — Plus, Watch a Scandalous Teaser

Tyler Perry has conquered Hollywood, and now his TV empire is expanding to include Netflix.

Perry’s first series for the streamer, Beauty in Black, will debut Thursday, Oct. 24, TVLine has learned, with Perry serving as creator, director, writer and executive producer. The hour-long drama “follows two women leading very different lives,” per the official description: “While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”

Netflix has also unveiled the first teaser for Beauty in Black — which you can watch above — with Taylor Polidore Williams (Snowfall) as Kimmie, who’s staying in a seedy motel and working at an, um, gentlemen’s club, and Crystle Stewart (For Better or Worse) as the affluent Mallory, who runs a glamorous beauty brand. But this is a Tyler Perry show, after all, so there’s also sex, scandal, people getting slapped — and someone getting hit by a car, for good measure.

Perry first inked a deal with Netflix in October 2023, but the deal previously only covered films like Mea Culpa, starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes, which premiered on the streamer in February. Perry’s other TV credits include BET’s The Oval and Sistas and BET+ spinoffs Ruthless and Zatima.
