FAMU football extends home game winning streak to 21 after comeback victory over SC State

Florida A&M football is hosting South Carolina State for a Week 1 non-conference game on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers (1-0) are fresh off a 24-23 victory against Norfolk State in last week’s MEAC/SWAC Challenge, first-year head coach James Colzie III’s first win in his debut. The Bulldogs (0-0), under new coach Chennis Berry, open their season against the Rattlers.

FAMU, opening its home slate for the 2024 season, hasn’t lost a game at Bragg Stadium since 2018. The Rattlers have the second-longest home winning streak in the Football Championship Subdivision with 20 wins.

The streak continues at Bragg Stadium

Florida A&M football took down South Carolina State 22-18 in its home opener on Friday night. Friday's win marks 21 straight home games for the Rattlers.

The Rattlers improve to 2-0 on the season. FAMU will face the Miami Hurricanes next Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium at 6 p.m.

FAMU's defense makes quick stop. Rattlers get the ball back

FAMU's defense took care of business with a quick stop that led to a 3-and-out on the Bulldogs. SC State punted. The Rattlers took possession of the ball with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter.

South Carolina State has one timeout remaining.

FAMU regains the lead with back-to-back scores

After trailing by two scores at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Rattlers took back the lead with back-to-back scores in five minutes,

Daniel Richardson found a wide-open Thad Franklin Jr for a six-yard TD pass. The Rattlers overcame a 15-point deficit and captured their first lead since the third quarter.

There is 5:39 left in the fourth quarter as the Rattlers lead 22-18.

FAMU cuts South Carolina State lead to three

Daniel Richardson went deep and found his go-to target, Koby Gross, to put the Rattlers inside the five.

He followed up with a touchdown pass to Karter Johnson in the endzone. The Rattlers added two more points after converting a two-point conversion.

The Rattlers now only trailed 18-15 with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter.

South Carolina State pounds its way for its second touchdown

SC State kept relying on their running game and completed its drive with a one-yard touchdown by Josh Shaw. The Bulldogs went for the two-point conversion and failed.

The Bulldogs extended their lead, 18-7 with 12:14 left in the fourth quarter.

FAMU loses football. South Carolina State recovers

Daniel Richardson threw a pass to Karter Johnson but fumbled after being stripped by linebacker Aaron Smith. The Bulldogs recovered at the 50.

The third quarter ended with KZ Adam rushing 23 yards to end the quarter.

All night, the Rattlers have struggled with ball security and dropped passes. The Bulldogs lead the Rattlers 12-7 to start the fourth quarter.

South Carolina State scores first touchdown to take the lead

South Carolina State found its way into the endzone for the first time and regained the lead.

The Bulldogs produced an 80-yard drive on 13 plays.

On third and 4, Eric Phoenix connected to receiver KZ Adams for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked, leaving it 12-7 with less than a minute left.

Daniel Richardson lost control of the ball and fumbled. The South Carolina State defense recovered it at SC St's 18. The Bulldogs get the ball back with 7:48 left in the third quarter.

South Carolina State put together a 1:30 minutes worth of offense. As a result, the Bulldogs hit a 37-yard field goal as the clock expired.

On 3rd and 15, Richardson avoided two defenders and found tight end Koby Gross for a Rattlers touchdown. With 10:52 remaining in the second quarter, FAMU leads 7-3.

SC St. quarterback Eric Phoenix went deep and found Caden High for a 39-yard pass. The Bulldogs knocked on the door inside the one, but the Rattlers' defense kicked them out on two plays.

An illegal motion penalty pushed the Bulldogs back at the five.

On third down, FAMU's safety, Deco Wilson, shot out of the gap and made a sack on Phoenix. Kyle Gallegos hits a 35-yard field, putting the Bulldogs on the board, 3-0.
