The Fashion Lohanaissance Is Upon Us—and I Couldn’t Be More Thrilled

For a Lindsay Lohan superfan, the gifts only keep coming. In the past few years, the early-’00s sweetheart has enjoyed a series of personal highs, from a wedding to a baby; and she’s treated us fans as well, with her delightfully corny Netflix films and cheeky Super Bowl commercials. But perhaps the most exciting update yet arrived this past June, when it was revealed that Lohan and her former costar Jamie Lee Curtis will be returning for a long-awaited follow-up to their beloved 2003 comedy Freaky Friday. Of course, those of us who came of age back then are already rejoicing, and while the press cycle is still in its early days, one thing has become clear: Lohan is back!

The first hint of the actor’s A-game press style came this past weekend, when Lohan and Curtis teased their sequel, Freakier Friday, at the Disney D23 fan event in Los Angeles. Details on the film, set to arrive in 2025, remain scarce, but what was no secret was Lohan’s winning red-carpet flair.

Recently, she has been teaming up with celebrity stylist duo Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi—and it seems to be a match made in heaven. For the D23 event, the pair outfitted her in a parade of glamorous looks, which began with two-toned couture courtesy of Balmain.

In backstage photos, Lohan is seen posing in her Balmain minidress, which featured a white tuxedo shirt layered underneath a black structural skirt. The skirt jutted out in square angles at the sides, with slits along the center and crisscross straps along the waist that connected it to the top. Lohan paired the piece with black Gianvito Rossi pumps, Cartier jewelry, and a mini Balmain handbag with script written across it. The look served black tie with a saucy twist.

The actor went for a totally different vibe with her next ensemble, looking like a mint green dream in a flowy transparent maxi gown from Jil Sander. Contrasting beautifully against her bright red locks, the green dress featured a transparent base with a capelike top layer that billowed around her, and Lohan embodied red-carpet elegance and boho breeziness all at once. She accessorized the look with silver jewelry consisting of dangly Anabela Chan earrings, a vintage bracelet, and rings, and she wore strappy silver Pīferi heels and carried a bedazzled rectangular Tyler Ellis clutch to boot.

Finally, the star completed a fashion trifecta with another designer look: a tweed set from Thom Browne. The muted ensemble consisted of a vest and matching skirt, as well as a square top-handle bag made of the same material. All three pieces were stitched with fabric in hues of cream, pale yellow, baby pink, and gray, and the vest was layered over a white button-up. To round out the fit, Lohan wore a pair of scene-stealing shoes, which looked like a fusion of ballet slippers, brogues, and kitten heels.

Based on the D23 event, it’s clear Lohan is ready to embrace tonally diverse aesthetics and keep pushing her stylistic limits. And there’s nothing freaky about that. Of course, longtime fans know she has always had an interest in fashion. Remember in 2008, when the actor launched her own clothing line, 6126 (now sadly defunct)? How about when she collaborated with Lily Baker and Allbirds on special jewelry and sneaker lines? Clearly, her passion for clothing hasn’t waned, and as possibly her biggest fan, I look forward to the Lohanaissance.
