Fayetteville Woodpeckers make ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 with wild catch

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers cracked ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 plays this week with a wild moment at Segra Stadium.

Kenni Gomez chased down a deep fly ball during the seventh inning of Wednesday's win over the Delmarva Shorebirds, leaping toward the wall in left-center and crashing through the bullpen door.

The play was ranked No. 4 on the ESPN program Thursday.

The Woodpeckers (29-36) were trailing 5-2 when the catch was made, but they rallied with seven unanswered runs over the next two innings for the 8-5 victory.

In addition to his highlight-reel catch, Gomez put the go-ahead run on the board with a two-RBI double in the eighth on a big night for the Houston Astros prospect.

Fayetteville sits in third place in the Single-A Carolina League South, 11 games behind first-place Kannapolis and 6½ games behind second-place Columbia.

The Woodpeckers are off to a 2-0 start in this six-game stand against the Shorebirds, which wraps up Sunday at Segra.
