V-6 Jeep Wranglers Now Manual Transmission OnlyJeep

After a heavy refresh in 2023, Jeep is back with some minor changes to its rock-crawling Wrangler for the 2025 model year, and a missing transmission is catching the attention of enthusiasts. But surprisingly, it isn't the manual transmission departing for the 2025 model year. Instead, the eight-speed automatic is waving goodbye — or at least, it is for one of the Wrangler's engines.

Staring with the new model year, you'll no longer be able to buy a Wrangler with the venerable Pentastar V-6 and an automatic transmission. Instead, the base model Jeep Wrangler will keep its 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6, but only with a six-speed manual. Previously, the slushbox was a $4500 upgrade.

The automatic transmission will remain standard on the 270-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, 375-hp turbocharged-and-electrified Wrangler 4xe, and soon-departed 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 powered Wrangler Rubicon 392.

That's where the Wrangler lineup stops being simple, as the pure internal combustion offerings come in seven different trims for 2025, while the 4xe versions come in six separate ones. Other standard equipment upgrades include, if you can believe it, power locks and windows. Last but not least, an olive green matched to the Jeeps of World War II is now available, with the color offered under the name "'41." You may not look like Sean Connery in A Bridge Too Far, but at least you can drive a modern Jeep in the same color.
