A man in Brooklyn, New York apparently took matters into his own hands in order to prevent his Chevrolet Silverado from being hauled away on September 6, unleashing a torrent of screams at the tow truck driver before allegedly stealing the towing vehicle itself. But as video captured by both bystanders and the tow truck's on-board camera shows, it was anything but a clean getaway; the tow truck thief slammed the towed Chevy into several parked vehicles before losing it entirely, sending the Silverado flying loose into the street.

The original video, posted on TikTok by repodaddy82caddy, begins with the tow truck already having lifted the Silverado into the air, as the tow truck operator works to secure it. A second man — the apparent driver of the Chevy — appears from behind the Silverado and tells the tow truck operator to “Put that f–king truck down” and “Get the f–k out of here,” along with some other, uh, choice words.

Video captured by spectators and aggregated on the website Streamable shows the two men appearing to struggle over the door to the tow truck's cab, with the apparent owner of the Chevy eventually climbing into the tow vehicle. As he drives off, he can be heard yelling, “Nobody is taking this truck from me!”

At that point, all hell breaks loose. The driver's door of the Chevy is still ajar, and it clips a Toyota RAV4 parked nearby. As the Silverado doesn't appear to be properly secured to the tow truck, it sways back and forth as the driver takes off, causing it to crash into about several other vehicles parked along the side of the road.

But things are about to get even worse for the Silverado. As the enraged man makes a right-hand turn, the Chevy pickup tumbles off the tow truck and rolls into the street, slamming into parked cars on its side before landing right-side up in front of a city bus. After losing his truck the man drives the tow truck for another couple of blocks before ditching the vehicle and leaving the scene, police told the New York Post.

According to a report from News 12 The Bronx, police are still looking for the suspect who caused the mayhem. If he is eventually found — and given that the Silverado was left at the scene, that seems probably — he seems likely to face consequences quite a bit more severe than just paying a fee to get his truck out of the impound.
