According to data from Kelley Blue Book, the average new car transaction price at the beginning of May was $48,389. However, the cost to drive some of the safest cars in 2024 ranges between $24,115 and $101,170.
Below is a list of the safest cars on the market in 2024. Each received an estimated safety score of 10/10 from U.S. News & World Report.
Several factors were considered, including standard driver-assistance technologies and their performance in crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). All cost data was sourced from Kelley Blue Book.

2024 Volvo V90
Average MSRP: $60,245-$65,845
The 2024 Volvo V90’s starting price is $60,245 for its B6 Plus Cross Country model and goes up to nearly $66,000 for the B6 Ultimate. The vehicle was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ last year and received the highest rating of Good in three IIHS crash tests and the second highest rating of Acceptable for the illumination of its headlights, according to U.S. News.

2024 Volvo V60 Recharge
Average MSRP: $72,345
According to U.S. News, the V60 Recharge earned high scores from the IIHS in three crash tests due to its headlights’ illumination of the road. Child seat installation comes with two latch connector sets, but the publication noted that accessibility can be challenging.

2024 Tesla Model 3
Average MSRP: $40,380-$49,130
The 2024 Tesla Model 3’s latch system for child seats has the second-highest level of Acceptable by the IIHS because of its deep anchors. The IIHS also awarded the Model 3 top scores for crash safety in all tests.
The NHTSA gave the Model 3 Long Range model a five-star overall rating and high marks on all crash tests. The Model 3 Performance model hasn’t been evaluated yet.
2024 Subaru Impreza
Average MSRP: $24,115
The redesigned 2024 Subaru Impreza earned top marks from both the NHTSA and the IIHS. It comes with standard safety features, two complete sets of latch connectors, and an additional tether anchor for child seats. The vehicle received the highest rating from the IIHS for its headlights’ effectiveness, and the NHTSA gave it five stars overall.
2024 Acura TLX
Average MSRP: $46,195-$58,195
According to U.S. News, the 2023 TLX was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and earned top scores in crash testing. It also received the best score of Superior for its standard front crash prevention systems. The vehicle also earned a five-star rating from the NHTSA. The 2024 model received several updates, but U.S. News noted that the safety credentials carry over.

2024 Genesis GV60
Average MSRP: $55,350-$70,900
The 2024 Genesis GV60 scored highly in all six IIHS crash tests and earned the highest score of Superior for its front crash prevention system. The 2023 version was also an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Prices start at around $53,000 for the Standard and go up to $70,900 for the Performance model.
2024 Kia EV6
Average MSRP: $43,975-$62,975
The 2023 Kia EV6 version earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, which carried over to 2024. The vehicle received a rating of Superior for its front crash protection technology and a rating of Good in all six crash tests. The Kia EFV6 is also available in five models, with a starting sticker price of $43,975 for the Light model.
2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Average MSRP: $43,285-$93,765
The IIHS gave the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia a Superior rating for its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, U.S. News reported. It also received a Good rating in nearly all crash tests. Kelley Blue Book noted that the Giulia as we know it may not be around in the future, as the automaker plans for the next generation to be all-electric.

2024 Lexus RC
Average MSRP: $45,920-$101,170
The 2024 Lexus RC has all of the standard driver-assistance features, but U.S. News pointed out that a few are optional. The vehicle received the best score of Good in four IIHS crash tests. The Lexus RC starts at $48,920 and is available in six different models.
2024 Volvo S90 Recharge
Average MSRP: $66,745-$72,295
The 2024 Volvo S90 offers two luxury plug-in hybrid Recharge models. The car’s latch system, which includes two connector sets for the outer rear seats plus a tether anchor for the middle seat, was rated as Acceptable by the IIHS.
