Five things to know

1. The Green Wave were dominant in Week 1. Tulane began the season with an effortless 52-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in which quarterback Darian Mensah threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Four other players rushed for touchdowns. Tulane piled up 472 yards of offense and limited Southeastern Louisiana to 201 yards.

2. This is a revenge game for K-State. The last time these two teams met on the football field Tulane pulled off a 17-10 upset at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in 2022. Interestingly, both teams went on to have great seasons. K-State won the Big 12 and played in the Sugar Bowl. Tulane won the AAC and then beat USC in the Cotton Bowl. Still, Chris Klieman and his coaching staff could be motivated to get revenge against a team that beat them two years ago.

3. Tulane wears some of the best uniforms in college football. One thing you are guaranteed to get from a Tulane football game is eye-popping uniforms. The Green Wave wear baby blue and green. Their mascot is an angry wave shaking his fist at the opposition. They mix and match uniform options to keep their look fresh. It all works great together.

4. K-State ran the ball effectively in its first game. The Wildcats were far from perfect during a 41-6 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. But they did do one thing exceptionally well: run the football. DJ Giddens turned 13 carries into 124 yards. Dylan Edwards and Joe Jackson both topped 40 yards. Avery Johnson ran for 37 more. Add it all up and K-State averaged 9.1 yards per rush. The Wildcats strive to be a balanced team on offense, but their identity is clearly on the ground.

5. Jon Sumrall is in his first year as coach at Tulane. When Willie Fritz left Tulane for Houston during the offseason, the Green Wave were quick to hire Sumrall away from Troy. Sumrall led the Trojans to 23 wins during his two seasons in charge and he is off to a 1-0 start in New Orleans. He will benefit from a rest advantage against K-State, as the Green Wave played their first game on Thursday.
