Florida State baseball beats UNC to advance to College World Series semifinals | Reactions

Florida State baseball survived on Tuesday, and will advance to the College World Series semifinals.

The No. 8 national seed Seminoles knocked off No. 4 North Carolina 9-5 in a CWS elimination game, capped with back-to-back home runs from Jaxson West and Max Williams to help FSU gain enough separation from its ACC foe late in win.

The Seminoles will take on No. 1 overall seed Tennessee at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. They need to beat the Vols twice to advance to the championship series for the first time since it started. Tennessee beat Florida State on a walk-off on Friday following a controversial check-swing call that went the Vols' way. FSU will have its shot at redemption.

FSU has never won a College World Series national championship, despite making the third-most appearances ever. This is the Seminoles' first trip back to Omaha since 2019 and the first time since legendary coach Mike Martin died ahead of the 2024 season.

Andrew Armstrong earned the start for FSU and matched a season-high of 4 1/3 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs on five hits. Connor Hults picked up the victory, going 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk. He struck out two batters.
