It’s summer and you know what that means — delicious treats from food trucks.

Whether it’s ice cream and dessert or barbecue and pizza, the scrumptious smell of carnival-like food wafting through the streets is enough to make your mouth water. And because food trucks travel well, you can find them just about anywhere from festivals to weekly setups at area businesses and parks.

We’ve conjured up a few of the local trucks in New Philadelphia, Dover and Tuscarawas County for you to follow on Facebook and see where they’re at next.

Three Lil Piggies BBQ and Food Truck

Three Lil Piggies BBQ and Food Truck is a triple threat in Tuscarawas County boasting a restaurant, food truck, and catering services. No matter how you want this barbecue, there’s a way for you to get it. But for now, let’s focus on the food truck, which offers a stellar menu that can peruse at their website here or you can follow their Instagram account (@threelilpiggiesbbq). So what does this barbecue joint offer? An interesting mix of classic items like pulled pork or chicken sandwiches, baby back ribs, and beef brisket, as well as barbecue and other cuisine fusions like Piggie Rolls (Egg rolls with a barbecue spin of southern cider slaw and sweet smoked pork) and Cowboy Caviar (blend of peppers, peas, black beans, charred corn, crushed garlic and cilantro marinated in red wine vinaigrette served with tortilla chips).They also offer a Mac-n-Cheese bowl that you can top with your favorite meat and sides including backed bean, southern cider slaw, hushpuppies, man-n-cheese, and sweet potato fries. They also note that menu availability and prices are subject to change throughout the year.

Schloneger's Old Fashioned Ice Cream

The near 1,000 followers of the Schloneger's Old Fashioned Ice Cream food truck Facebook page are already marking their calendars thanks to their posting of their 2024 schedule of where they’ll be and when this summer. Why? With its 5-star rating, it’s a sure bet for a delicious cool treat during the dogs days of summer.Schloneger’s promises on their Facebook page to “make the best true ‘homemade’ ice cream, made on the spot or close by and to ‘bring back memories’ of your homemade ice cream endeavors.” Flavors vary at any given event but its Facebook page shows flavor possibilities that include a non-dairy, diabetic friendly Mint Chocolate Chip, Mango, Dandelion, Oranges + Cream, Black Cherry, Reese’s Cup Vanilla, Cake Batter, Coconut Cream, Pumpkin Pecan, Cookies ‘n’ Cream, Espresso, Smoked Maple Pecan, Lavender, Cinnamon Pecan Crunch, Peach, Blueberry Chocolate Chip, Cookie Dough, Mt. Dew sherbet, Lemon Cream, and of course the classics of Chocolate and Vanilla.You can get the ice cream in a bowl or on a waffle or cake cone, as well as in a root beer float. You can also buy the ice cream in a pint or quart to go.

Ross Mountain BBQ and Catering

The more than 3,400 followers on Ross Mountain BBQ and Catering’s Facebook page are delighted regularly by the mouthwatering photos of the items from their menu. And with a 4.9-rating, it’s probably safe to say it’s as good as it looks. And they’re great at advertising where they’ll be with photos of what they’re cooking up for visitors.It’s classic barbecue all the way at Ross Mountain with pulled pork, beef brisket, tenderloin, wings, green beans, baked beans, cheesy potatoes, mac-n-cheese, and coleslaw. They also offer fruit cups, racks of ribs, and various culinary delights like bacon-wrapped brats and chicken skewers, as well as smothered brats with beans and a Mac and Meat dish.

Black Sheep Salads

The first thing you’ll notice about Black Sheep Salads food truck is, well, it’s not a truck. It’s a bus — an eye-catching white bus with black trim and a plant that hangs of the passenger side rearview mirror. It’s a treat for the eyes and so is the fresh food that you can buy. With a 5-star rating on its Facebook page, its near 3,000 followers can’t be wrong, right? And this food truck, er, bus, is great at keeping its followers informed of where and when they’ll be located for folks to get a fresh salad or meal.

The gist of this food truck is “Build Your Own Salad,” and they offer an incredible assortment of toppings for you to build exactly what you want from fresh fruits and vegetables to sunflower kernels and Tostitos strips. They also offer side treats with your salad called Nummies, and those include a pickle stick, pretzel, nachos and cheese, loaded nachos, loaded nachos with meat, Coney dogs, hot dogs, Chicago dogs, and tacos.Oh, and to reward yourself for eating so healthy, they offer cotton candy or a slice of cheesecake. And if you really ate well, you can buy a whole cheesecake, and that’s OK.

The Icy Spoon Shaved Ice (formerly the Hippie Shack Shaved Ice)

The former Hippie Shack Shaved Ice food truck was sold last summer and renamed The Icy Spoon Shaved Ice food truck — and it looks like the shaved ice is still going strong with frequent postings on its new Facebook page with where and when it will be located for folks to get a hit of this cool, delicious treat during the hot days of summer. How can you not love something that looks a rainbow concoction of goodness just on its social media alone?The menu is a “choose your own flavor” of shaved ice in small, medium, or large, with a different featured flavor depending on the location including ones like Lime and Coconut. You can obviously mix and match your own concoction with flavors like mango, lemon, passion fruit, peach, grape, blueberry, banana, pink lemonade, red raspberry, root beer, pineapple, and more. You can also choose add-ons like vanilla, coconut, or banana cream.

Backwoods Smokehouse, LLC

With 1,400 followers on its Facebook page, the 5-star rated Backwoods Smokehouse food truck is great at keeping its fans informed of where and when it will be located. And that’s great news given how delicious its photos look for its specific brand of barbecue and sides.

The menu includes classic sandwiches like the brisket sandwich, pulled pork or pulled chicken, and specials where you can add two sides to the sandwich, or you can get a platter with just meat, sides, and a slice of cornbread. Sides include smoked mac and cheese, smokehouse baked beans, seasoned green beans, cheesy potatoes, southern fried apples, coleslaw, Italian pasta salad, sweet potato casserole, fiesta corn casserole, and fresh cut fries.They also offer two delightful smokehouse specials: the Brushpile, which is fresh cut fries topped with your choice of meat, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, green onions and barbecue sauce; and the Smokehouse Sundae which is 2 scoops of homemade mashed potatoes topped with your choice of meat, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, green onions, and barbecue sauce.
