Gibraltar Carlson 42, Taylor 7

GIBRALTAR – Gibraltar Carlson racked up 21 points in the first quarter and rolled to its third consecutive win to start the season.

Drew Sikora caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Joe Krolak to open the scoring, then Landon Vida plunged in from a yard out.

Avery Ortiz had the next two Carlson TDs on runs of 5 and 46 yards.

Zach Holewinski reached the end zone in the third quarter on a 3-yard run and Trent Ison had a 26-yard scoring run in the fourth period to close the scoring.

Dean Manthei kicked all five PATs.

Carlson has not lost to the Griffins since the Taylor schools merged into one in 2018, winning all six meetings.

Carlson plays at Wyandotte Roosevelt Friday.

Flat Rock 35, Airport 14

CARLETON – Graham Junge threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter to get Flat Rock rolling towards its third win of the season.

Airport dipped to 0-3.

SMCC 49, Grosse Ile 0

WYANDOTTE –St. Mary Catholic Central emphatically avenged its most galling loss from last season.

Grosse Ile upset SMCC 21-20 in 2023 for its only win of the season.

Grosse Ile already has faced two of the Monroe County Region’s best teams this season, falling 48-6 to Ida and 50-0 to Flat Rock.

SMCC (3-0) pays a call on Airport Friday.

New Boston Huron 28, Milan 7

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron picked up its first victory of the season.

CJ Fairbanks led the Big Reds with 102 yards and the team's lone touchdown on 13 carries. Jacob Offerman intercepted a pass.

"Our kids played a gutsy game overall," said Milan Coach Jesse Hoskins. "We were driving twice in the third quarter. One drive stalled over a questionable spot, and another ended in a fumble. New Boston ran the ball right at us in the second half and we really didn't have an answer."

Both teams are 1-2.

It was just the sixth time in school history Huron has beaten Milan. Milan leads the all-time series 26-6.

Huron travels to Riverview Friday while Milan goes home to play Grosse Ile.

Summerfield plays Friday at West Unity Hilltop (Ohio).

Hudson 16, Ida 8

HUDSON - Hudson scored in the final minute to pull out the LCAA victory.

Ida gave up a first-quarter touchdown, then blanked the Tigers until the late TD.

Ida scored with just over six minutes left on a 1-yard touchdown run by Gavin Albring and Dean Thomas added the two-point conversion to tie the score at 8-8.

Hudson then marched 65-yards on 13 plays to pick up the victory and hand Ida its first loss.

"Hats off to them," Ida coach Jeff Potter said. "They are physical on both sides of the ball, and they control the line of scrimmage. We have to do a better job."

Ida hosts Hillsdale Friday.

Dexter 59, Bedford 13

TEMPERANCE - Bedford trailed 42-0 at halftime in Friday's home loss to Dexter, which dropped the Mules to 1-2 on the season.

Lucas Gerber scored the home team's lone offensive touchdown of the night on a 22-yard run in the third quarter. Kaden Eischen returned an interception 36 yards to the house for Bedford's only other points of the evening.

"It was a tough night," said Bedford Coach John Phillips. "We need to put this behind us. Lots of season left."
