Ford recalls 500,000 trucks due to transmission woes. Here's what to know

Do you drive a Ford? If so, you might need some repairs.

The company recalled more than 550,000 pickup trucks in the United States on Tuesday because the trucks' transmissions can suddenly shift down to first gear, even when the cars are going fast. The shifts can cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle, which could lead to a crash.

The recall includes some F-150 pickups from 2014 and comes after it was announced safety regulators were investigating the problems in March.

If you have a car that is included in the recall, expect a letter by July.

If you need information on the recall or have questions, contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Owners can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at www.nhtsa.gov or call 800-424-9153.
