Four divisions highlight annual Cheboygan Chaos Clash softball tournament this weekend

CHEBOYGAN – One of the biggest local summer sporting events will happen in Cheboygan this weekend.

Starting on Friday, Cheboygan will host its 6th annual Chaos Clash travel softball tournament, which will once again feature over 30 teams in four different divisions.

Since it started years ago, the Chaos Clash has been a major success in terms of the competitiveness of its tournaments and the several teams involved. This year’s tournament will be a lot like previous years, as teams will begin competing in pool play action as early as Friday afternoon.

Among the Cheboygan-based teams participating in this year’s event include the Cheboygan Chaos 10-under, 12U and high school division teams. Joe Kosanke, one of the tournament's main organizers, will lead the Boyne City-based Northern Michigan Legends 14U team, which features multiple players from Cheboygan. In addition to the Chaos and Legends teams, the Presque Isle Panthers-Decker 14U squad is another area team to keep an eye on.

Most tournament contests will take place at the Cheboygan recreational fields, while the high school division will be played at the varsity field at Cheboygan High School. The 10U tournament games will be played at the rookie field, 12U at the rec field, and 14U at the river field.

Softball action will get started at 1 p.m. on Friday, with a time limit of one hour, 25 minutes for each pool play game.
