Four more Indiana counties are now eligible to register for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is continuing to expand in counties across Indiana.

Thanks to a partnership with United Way of South Central Indiana, Greene, Lawrence, Orange and Owen counties are now eligible for the program that sends free books monthly to children younger than five.

Here's what to know.

What is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a program designed to put books into the hands of all children under the age of five.

Children registered for the program receive one free, age-appropriate book a month every month until they turn 5 years old.

What Indiana counties can register for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?

In August 2023, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library announced plans for a statewide expansion of the program in partnership with Gov. Eric Holcomb, a goal many states have including our neighboring state Kentucky.

Dolly Parton was in Lexington, Kentucky last week to celebrate the program reaching its goal and expanding to serve all 120 counties in the state.

On May 4, 2023, Gov. Holcomb signed legislation into law that allotted $6 million over the next two years, with $2 million in the first year and $4 million in the second year, as part of a community share to expand the program to every zip code in the state, according to the press release.

At the time there were 54 counties in Indiana eligible to sign up Hoosier children under the age of 5 for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Now, almost a year later, four more counties have been added to the list: Greene, Lawrence, Orange and Owen counties.

There are 92 counties in Indiana total, meaning the program is available in over half the state's counties.
