Fourth person charged in Southern Miss football player MJ Daniels' death

A fourth person has been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting death of Southern Miss football player MJ Daniels, according to the Hattiesburg Police Department.

Nytavion Shaw, 16 of Laurel, was arrested Wednesday at approximately 11:30 p.m. and booked into the Forrest County Jail. He's been charged with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted armed carjacking.

Shaw is charged as an adult.

The two charges are the same ones that the three others face. Orlando May, 18 of Hattiesburg, Allen Marcus Gardner, 17 of Houston, and Samir Green, 16 of Hattiesburg, were all arrested last week and made their initial court appearances on Monday. All are being charged as adults. May has additional charges: One count of felony eluding and two counts of motor vehicle theft.

May, Gardner and Green did not receive bonds for their capital murder charges.

Daniels, a 21-year-old from Lucedale, was shot and killed on June 11 in Hattiesburg. According to his mom, he was sleeping in his car when he was killed.

Daniels began his career at Ole Miss before transferring to Southern Miss last season. He was projected to start at safety for his upcoming senior season.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at the George County High School gymnasium.
