Fowlerville Schools hires recreation director, performing arts manager

FOWLERVILLEFowlerville Community Schools has made two new hires — one to lead the district’s recreational activities and the other to manage its performing arts center.

Zack Douglass has been named the district's new recreation director and Jillian Martin the manager of the Alverson Performing Arts Center. The FCS Board of Education approved contracts for both positions on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Douglass is a hometown graduate, according to a district news release. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology/exercise science from Michigan State University with specializations in health promotion, athletic administration, coaching and leadership fitness.

Douglass also served as positions coach for the local football team and has coached youth football and basketball. He has 15 years of experience as an official for the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Douglass will lead recreational activities through a cooperative agreement for FCS, Fowlerville, Iosco Township, Cohoctah Township, Conway Township and Handy Township. The position is designed to “enrich the community through a range of youth recreational activities (first through eighth grade) under the administrative oversight of (FCS)," according to the release. Douglass will be guided by the Community Recreation Advisory Board.

Martin, meanwhile, has an undergraduate degree in theater with a performance emphasis from the University of Michigan - Flint, according to the release. She earned a master's degree in applied drama and theater for the young from Eastern Michigan University.

Martin has served as the facilitator/director at Encore Youth Theatre in Hartland for summer camps and the musical theater program. She's also served as a graduate teaching assistant at EMU.
