FSU commit Tramell Jones Jr. convinces other prospects to join him during official visit

Tramell Jones Jr. came to Florida State on his official visit for one purpose.

Get more guys to join him.

Last weekend was the final week of official visits before a dead period, giving the undecided prospects who are considering FSU enough time before making their college decision. Jones was pleading his case to all the visitors.

"I was coming after everybody that weekend," Jones said. "Really, it's just me showing love, showing the family-oriented quality that we have in Florida State, showing them how real we are, and showing them how we develop them at the next level. "

The Mandarin quarterback is one of the seven FSU commits in the class of 2025. The Jacksonville native has been loyal to the Seminoles since last April. This would be the 20th trip to the campus.

In the last two days, FSU has received commitments from wide receiver CJ Wiley and defensive lineman Kevin "JuJu" Wynn.

Jones sees himself playing any of the prospects who are considering FSU. He is also high on the class, being as elite as what teams are bargaining for.

"This is a championship-caliber class, to be honest with you," Jones said.

"We're just trying to get the best of the best, especially in the trenches and the skill level. Just being able to recruit and talk to all the guys and see what the fit is for this class."

He brought his family along from Jacksonville and was just as amazed by the environment as Jones has been since every time he attended.

"I think it was breathtaking for them, to be honest," Jones said. "They way they were telling me about it, it was breathtaking."

Jones has also developed a strong relationship with head coach Mike Norvell and QB coach Tony Tokartz.

"It's just the consistency of how real he is with me," Jones said. "The reassurance and pretty much everything that goes into Coach Norvell and us talking. It was just great being here."

One of the players Jones tried to get was four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III from Orlando, Florida.

Jones and Brown connected after teaming up in the South Florida Express showcase and have been close ever since.

"I think trying to get Vernell here," Jones said. "I'm going to give him the ball to him in those key situations where no one else can get it. He knows what's up."

Mike Norvell envisioned having Jones and Brown on the same team. Jones recalled being in the same room with them, talking about their future together.

"We didn't have a relationship before SFE," Jones said. "So you can see how much that has grown with SFE and what he sees. Coach Norvell talked about it."

Brown, who is also considering Florida, Ohio State and Alabama, was asked about his visit to FSU and shouted out Jones for convincing him to become a Seminole.

"That was the biggest difference," Brown said. "That's my guy and a really good guy. Being able to spend this visit with him was big.

"He's not recruiting me because we're so close. Just in our conversation, we're like, man, we can really make it happen at the next level."

Before he was in Tallahassee, Jones was in California as he was one of the quarterbacks selected in the Elite 11 last week.

Jones talked about his experience during the exit meeting at FSU. One of the notable highlights he enjoyed was meeting former USC and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, which Jones called him a legend.

"It was a great experience," Jones said.

"To be able to learn from everybody. To be able to learn from all the coaches, to be able to learn about the body and mind, to be able to connect yourself, to be able to compete with other quarterbacks, and to display my talents to the next national level."

Jones is a three-star quarterback. In his junior season, he threw for 3,195 yards and 33 touchdowns, and he completed 61 percent of his passes. He led the Mustangs to the state championship last year.

Jones believed he made a good impression on the coaches at the Elite 11 camp and will utilize the tools given to them as he completes his senior year.

They just keep telling me to keep being me," Jones said. "They love my consistency and my accuracy. They love the way I put the ball. They were just blown away."
